Abstract: The text leads in educational context the pioneer contribution of Ivan Kirkov in the field of
Bulgarian abstract art. The artist’s deed is briefly described and analysed in its entity, certain aspects are
highlighted. Considered is the role of the non-figurative exercises in the educational programme on visual arts
in primary school. The possible interdisciplinary relations in this field are studied. The alternative significance of
the non-figurative artistic exercises is highlighted for children who have difficulties in drawing from observation/
memory/imagination. The possible interdisciplinary relations in the educational field are studied – on focus is
the influential interaction between visual arts, mathematics and music.
