Abstract: On 26 March 2019, the European Parliament adopted the final text of the DIRE CTIVE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL ON COPYRIGHT IN THE DIGITAL SINGLE MARKET and on 17 April 2019 the texts were finally endorsed by the President of the European Parliament and the President of the Council. This issue deals with the European Union’s financial report, which started in 2016 as well. At the core of this law-making activity is the indisputable need for a new rule of copyright in the context of the technological realities of the modern world. Already with its adoption, the DIRECTIVE OF THEEUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL ON COPYRIGHT IN THE DIGITAL SINGLE MARKET has sparked many and divergent views and comments, ranging from extreme disapproval, and even categorical rejection, to positive assessments, with a view to better protecting the rights of authors in a digital environment, fair reward. One of the most important aspects, however, is that the document related to teaching and research from the point of view of copyright in the digital single market, which the new Directive regulates. While these norms have a relatively limited scope, they are certainly positive and relevant, and the expectations are to facilitate teaching activities and to give new impetus to research work in universities and all other organizations and institutions involved with this. All this, given the current realities of extreme competition in the scientific and technological sphere, is of great importance, not only for the leading position but also for the survival of the European Union.
