FROM THE VISIBLE TO THE INVISIBLE: DEVELOPING INQUIRY SKILLS IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION THROUGH PROJECT-BASED LEARNING AND THE USE OF A DIGITAL MICROSCOPE

Abstract: The paper presents an innovative educational practice implemented in a fourth preparatory preschool group through the mini-project “Plants Up Close”. The project integrates project-based learning, inquirybased learning, digital microscopy, creative expression and environmental education in order to stimulate children’s cognitive development and early scientific literacy. Over the course of one month, children explored spring plants through direct observations, microscopic investigations, documentation, artistic interpretation and collaborative creation of educational products. The learning process was enriched through interactive digital games that combined natural science knowledge with early literacy skills. The project encouraged children to formulate questions, make observations, compare findings, classify natural objects and present results. The outcomes demonstrate that the integration of innovative technologies, experiential learning and interdisciplinary educational approaches significantly enhances children’s engagement, supports inquiry behaviour and contributes to the development of key competences in preschool education.
