A LETTER FROM MISHCHO – AN INTERDISCIPLINARY LESSON IN SECOND GRADE

Abstract: The interdisciplinary lesson „Letter from Mishcho“, carried out with second-grade students, presents a good pedagogical practice for establishing cross-curricular connections through story-based learning. The lesson is built on an engaging storyline, presented through a letter from the character Mishcho, which introduces students to the world of Mouse Town and its inhabitants. Through a series of consecutively posed challenges, conditions are created for reinforcing what has been learned in second grade, for active participation, cooperation, independence, and creative thinking and expression. The lesson integrates activities from Bulgarian language and literature, mathematics, homeland studies, music, visual arts, and technology and entrepreneurship. Students perform practical tasks related to measuring time and length, reading comprehension, language preparation, observation, teamwork, and solving problem situations. Particularly important are the activities of making a clock and a photo frame, which encourage learning through experience and support the development of creative thinking, fine motor skills, and abilities for independent work. Practice shows that the use of plot-based learning in combination with interdisciplinary connections and practical activities increases learning motivation, supports the formation of key competencies, and creates conditions for more lasting assimilation of educational content in the primary education stage.
