„A CLEAN PLANET – A HAPPY FUTURE“ – AN INTERDISCIPLINARY LESSON IN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY FOR THIRD-GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract: “A Clean Planet – A Happy Future“ is a lesson conducted within one class period during extracurricular activities in the third grade. It is part of the activities planned and implemented under the project “Sustainable Future“, carried out within the framework of the National Program “Innovations in Action“. The teaching team works systematically and purposefully to develop students’ basic knowledge about the interrelationships in the natural environment and the role of humans in its preservation, as well as to build a responsible and conscious attitude toward environmental protection as a prerequisite for sustainable development. The activities implemented in the lesson create favorable conditions for expanding students’ understanding of sustainable behavior and personal contribution to nature conservation. Through the application of various interactive methods and approaches, the cognitive activity, motivation, and engagement of third-grade students are stimulated. Particular importance is given to the “learning through experience“ (“learning by doing“) method, which has proven highly effective in primary education. The practical task in the lesson – planting a flower – provides students with the opportunity not only to apply the knowledge they have acquired, but also to learn new concepts, facts, and values related to environmental protection. During the lesson, an interdisciplinary connection is established between the educational content in Bulgarian Language and Literature, Man and Nature, Technologies and Entrepreneurship, and Music.
