Abstract: The interdisciplinary STEAM lesson “Healthy Eating – Fun, Delicious, and Beneficial“ integrates knowledge and skills from Social Studies, Bulgarian Language and Literature, Mathematics, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. Its main objective is to develop students’ understanding of healthy eating, encourage responsible attitudes toward their health, and help them distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods. The lesson begins with a multimedia presentation and excerpts from the fairy tales The Greatest Wealth and The Wheat Loaf. Through guided discussion, students are introduced to the food pyramid and the importance of a balanced diet. The main part of the lesson consists of collaborative missions. In “Food Traffic Light,“ students classify foods according to their nutritional value. In “Culinary Detective,“ they analyse texts to identify healthy and unhealthy eating habits. During “Math Plate,“ they use fractions to create a balanced meal. In “Create a Healthy Lunch,“ students solve mathematical tasks, identify food items, and program the Photon educational robot to collect only healthy foods for a balanced lunch. In the final mission, “Eat the Rainbow,“ they arrange fruits and vegetables into a colorful rainbow and prepare a fruit salad.
The lesson concludes with reflection on healthy lifestyle choices. Through these engaging activities, students strengthen interdisciplinary knowledge, develop teamwork and computational thinking skills, and recognize the importance of healthy nutrition for overall well-being.
