OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERACTION BETWEEN BLOCKCHAIN AND SECONDARY EDUCATION IN BULGARIA

Abstract: This article examines the potential interaction between blockchain technology and secondary education in Bulgaria, emphasizing both the technological opportunities and the institutional challenges associated with such integration. The study explores the evolution of blockchain from its origins as the technological foundation of cryptocurrencies to its broader application in areas such as digital identity, data security, intellectual property protection, and decentralized information management. Particular attention is paid to the educational sector, where blockchain technologies could contribute to the secure storage and verification of academic records, diplomas, certificates, and student achievements, while simultaneously reducing administrative burdens and the risks of document fraud. The paper also analyzes the pedagogical potential of introducing blockchain-related topics into secondary school curricula through disciplines such as information technology, economics, entrepreneurship, and civic education. In this context, blockchain is considered not only as a technological tool but also as a means of developing digital competencies, cybersecurity awareness, and interdisciplinary skills among students. At the same time, the research identifies significant obstacles to implementation, including insufficient infrastructure, limited funding, lack of specialized educational programs, teacher training deficiencies, and concerns regarding GDPR compliance and personal data protection. The article concludes that, with appropriate strategic planning and institutional support, Bulgarian secondary education could become an important component of the emerging national and European blockchain ecosystem.
