THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE TRAINING OF FUTURE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

Abstract: The report presents the results of a semi-structured interview conducted with 22 first- and fourthyear students enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree program at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo, majoring in „Elementary School Pedagogy and Special Education“, in the full-time program. It was found that: Artificial intelligence and its capabilities (with frequent and regular use being the norm) are widely accepted among the interviewed students, who are future special education teachers and resource teachers. They demonstrate a critical attitude – the majority verify important information and do not trust it unconditionally. The overall attitude toward the role of AI in the academic environment is positive, with no pronounced negative attitudes. The results support the need for institutional guidelines and a potential specialized course on working with AI at the university.
