Abstract: Harmonic oscillation is one of the most common mechanical motions. The simplest mechanical systems undergoing harmonic oscillations are the spring pendulum and the mathematical pendulum. They are a subject of study in ninth-grade physics. This article presents ideas for investigating these simple oscillating systems in Physics education. A physics educational experiment and a graphical method are utilized, serving as powerful visual methods. As a result, students develop knowledge regarding both spring and mathematical pendulums, as well as the fundamental quantities that characterize them- period and frequency. The formula for the period of a spring pendulum is derived experimentally. Through demonstration experiments, students are shown that the period of a mathematical pendulum depends on the length of the string and the acceleration due to gravity. The physics teacher can employ computer simulations and animations. These didactic tools increase students’ motivation and interest in the subject of physics. The consolidation of knowledge is achieved through solving graphical problems. This process simultaneously forms and develops the students’ graphical skills. The proposed approach offers an opportunity to form durable and profound knowledge of simple oscillating systems, as well as to develop students’ graphical skills. Consequently, it enhances the effectiveness of the teacher’s work and the quality of physics education.
