AN ACTIVITY DESIGN FOR TEACHING WRITING IN ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE AT THE HIGHER EDUCATION LEVEL

Abstract: The report presents a design for integrating artificial intelligence into English language writing activities for the training needs of students at the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior. In this design, ChatGPT is integrated into the editing phase: students first create a draft on their own and then use artificial intelligence to analyze their text according to predefined criteria. The resulting recommendations serve to improve the essay’s grammar, vocabulary, organization, and style, with the final decisions made by the students. Initial observations indicate that the use of ChatGPT primarily helps students identify linguistic inaccuracies and select more appropriate language choices. A future analysis of the AI prompts used and student feedback is planned to refine the design of similar learning tasks. Overall, the integration of artificial intelligence into English writing instruction shows potential to improve the quality of texts, provide personalized feedback, and enhance the effectiveness of the learning process.
