USE OF ELECTRONIC EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR DEVELOPING FUNCTIONAL LITERACY IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION

Abstract: Functional literacy in preschool education develops when children are encouraged to apply acquired knowledge in meaningful, play-based, and practical situations. The present paper examines the pedagogical potential of the author-designed electronic book Adventures of Moniti in the World of Games, developed in Canva as part of a broader dissertation study. The aim is to analyse how the resource supports the organisation of mathematically oriented role-play activities that connect digital content with practical action. The study applies theoretical analysis, content and pedagogical analysis of the structure and common sequence of the game situations, and a secondary thematic analysis of survey data collected from 328 pedagogical specialists. The survey results reveal positive attitudes towards the use of digital technologies, together with a need for accessible, ready-to-use, and methodologically structured educational resources. The electronic book combines a short video address by the main character, the presentation of a real-life problem, a request for children’s help, role participation, mathematical actions, and a practical solution. Its educational value lies not in the digital format alone, but in the transition from screen-based content to active play, communication, manipulation of objects, and the practical application of counting, comparison, grouping, classification, and spatial and quantitative relations. The paper also identifies pedagogical conditions for the effective use of the resource. The conclusions concern its structure and pedagogical potential rather than an independently measured effect.
