Abstract: In the context of the modern educational environment, ecology has long been not only focused on biological sciences, but also affects components of biological, geographical, social, economic, technical and other sciences. That is why ecology can be rightly defined as a mega–science. In the educational discourse, ecology should be considered through the prism of the ecological approach (understood as a variant of systemic knowledge). This article raises the thesis of a relationship between ecology (environmental education) and fiction in primary school. A generalized analysis of ecology as a mega–science is made. The educational spheres with an ecological focus at the primary stage are fixed. Specific subjects are identified, in whose educational content environmental topics are widely represented. The intersections between ecology (in particular environmental education) and fiction are sought. Methodological recommendations are made for the application of fiction as a complementary, supporting means for upgrading environmental education at the primary stage.

Keywords: environmental education, sustainable development, primary school.
