CAN TEACHERS USE THIRDPARTY COPYRIGHTED WORKS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES?

Abstract: This article examines some of the fundamental legal provisions on the matter under the Bulgari- an Copyright and Related Rights Act, including issues related to quotation, the use of excerpts from published works — including audio and video materials — for educational purposes, as well as the online distribution of small portions of works for teaching use. Another issue addressed is the difference between Bulgarian and European legislation in regulating this field. The article also explores the possibilities for using third-party copyrighted content from some of the most widely used online platforms, such as Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
