Abstract: This article explores Social Pedagogical Family Support as an intensive ambulant form of social intervention implemented within the German child and youth welfare system (§31 SGB VIII). It presents the model’s core objectives, principles, and phases, highlighting its resource-oriented and participatory approach.
The analysis is based on a theoretical review and personal professional experience with SPFS in Germany. Potential risks for adapting the model to the Bulgarian context are examined, including limited institutional capacity, lack of a regulatory framework, and cultural challenges. The aim is to assess the applicability of SPFS as a good practice in supporting vulnerable families in Bulgaria. The author argues that, with an adapted approach, inter-agency collaboration, and proper professional training, the model can offer more sustainable family support.
