SOCIAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS – INCREASING MOTIVATION TO PARTICIPATE IN ACTIVITIES

Abstract: The pilot study is implemented through an author’s questionnaire, which explores the opinion of students from higher education institutions in relation to specific motivators that would help them to more intensively seek opportunities for inclusion in activities related to providing social support to students at universities. An interdependence is established between the student’s willingness to seek support and the place and time of implementation; the specialist who organizes the activities; the need to make additional efforts – completing
homework; duration of meetings; providing a cozy environment; topics for discussion. It is extremely important to seek different approaches to increase students’ awareness of the topic and their motivation to seek social support at the university, which would help improve their general well-being and to realize their personal and professional space in a positive academic environment. The conclusions drawn based on the results obtained will provide an opportunity to expand the parameters of the study, as well as to discover and implement innovative approaches for students’ search for and inclusion in social support activities. At the same time, a balance is sought between providing social support and empowering the student to seek and find their own solutions to overcome difficult situations, rather than developing a dependency on the support provided or having endless expectations of the helping professional.
