TRADITIONS AND INNOVATION IN INTEGRATIVE EDUCATION: A PATH TOWARDS COMPETENCE AND INDIVIDUALIZATION

Abstract: The integrative approach to education which directly links the learning process with social and economic realities has deep roots in the Bulgarian school, dating back to the 19th century. This historical foundation paves the way for modern understanding of integrative learning and developing a competence of a synthetic type. The article examines both historical examples of integrative activities set out in textbooks used in various periods until the 1980s along with innovative practices in modern schools. Fragments of pedagogical and management
practice from the 125th Secondary School in Sofia are presented. This practice demonstrates longterm implementation of integrative activities aimed not only at transferring knowledge, but also at developing sustainable competences.
