Abstract: “In the fairy-tale world of books“ was the topic of a lesson held in the Interest Activities class in the second grade. In an innovative way, the students presented their favorite fairy tale characters – they created a real “Fairy Tale Ball“ and realized that every fairy tale can teach them important virtues to apply in real life. They also presented a dramatization of the Bulgarian folk tale “He who does not work should not eat“. Through this fairy tale we tried to summarize one of the basic human values – to learn to value work in order to achieve success and to enjoy the fruits of this work. Students showed an excellent knowledge of the Bulgarian language on the parts of speech they had learnt, as well as teamwork skills – by solving language exercises. The lesson was interdisciplinary as it combined in an interesting way links with the subjects Bulgarian Language and Literature, Music, Information Technology and Technology and Entrepreneurship. In the second part of Interest Activities, the students made beautiful reading journals to complete during the summer holidays. Because we know that “A child who reads will become an adult who thinks“.

Keywords: fairy tale, reading, interdisciplinary approach, reading journals, active learning.
