KNOWING THE PARTS OF SPEECH – AN INTERDISCIPLINARY INNOVATIVE LESSON FOR THIRD GRADE

Abstract: „Knowing the Parts of Speech“ is an interdisciplinary lesson that integrates knowledge from Bulgarian language, social studies, science, music, and information technology. The aim of this lesson is to consolidate students’ understanding of the parts of speech, enhance their ability to identify grammatical categories, and improve proper pronunciation and spelling. Additionally, it commemorates World Water Day, highlighting its significance for all living organisms. The lesson begins with a multimedia presentation and a brief discussion. It transitions smoothly by revisiting prior knowledge about the parts of speech, after which the third graders identify the word “water“ as a noun and discuss its grammatical features, including related words. Students are divided into teams to solve worksheets. They trace the paths of studied rivers on the map of Bulgaria and identify and correct spelling errors in a text reviewing the properties of water. To reinforce their knowledge, students play educational games on the Nearpod platform. The lesson concludes with a song, “Gratitude to Water.“ This lesson reinforces knowledge of the parts of speech, improves pronunciation and spelling skills, and commemorates World Water Day, emphasizing the importance of water for all living organisms.
