Abstract: In today’s dynamic job market, the ability to effectively manage one’s career is a key factor for success. The Whetten & Cameron model (Whetten & Cameron, 1991) offers a structured approach to developing these skills, consisting of five interconnected steps: Preliminary Assessment: Determines the current level of competence of the trainees. Identifies their strengths and weaknesses. Utilizes assessment tools such as tests, surveys, and role-playing exercises. Training: Introduces trainees to the theoretical foundation of career management. Presents key principles and strategies for effective planning. Uses lectures, readings, and discussions. Analysis: Develops critical thinking and decision-making skills. Analyzes case studies and real-world behavioral patterns. Utilizes simulations, discussions, and group exercises. Practice: Provides opportunities to practice skills in simulated settings. Uses role-playing exercises, practice exercises, and job interview simulations. Assists in developing action plans. Application: Supports the application of skills in real-world situations. Encourages trainees to develop and implement an action plan. Provides support and feedback for a smooth transition from the learning environment to the real world. Advantages of the Model: Structured approach that is easy to follow and apply. Practical orientation that allows trainees to develop their skills in real-world situations. Flexible approach that can be adapted to the different needs of trainees. The Whetten & Cameron model is a valuable tool for developing career management programs that help trainees develop the skills they need to succeed in today’s dynamic job market.
