SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND MEMBER STATES WITH A TRADITIONAL ORTHODOX RELIGION

Abstract: The article outlines the functions and implementation of contemporary religious education in the current school context of the European Union member states, which is characterized by cultural and ethnic diversity. Religious education as an educational phenomenon is presented, with an emphasis on the types of religious education and the confessional, intercultural and civically significant dimensions of religious literacy. Based on a comparative analysis, the main characteristics of school religious education in traditionally Orthodox member states of the European Union are highlighted. Conclusions are formulated which are essential in terms of the vision of the nature, design and status of the subject of religion in Bulgaria.
