Abstract: It is appropriate to pay special a en on to the case of the deceased this year, Zygmunt Bauman,
one of the greatest sociologists of our me. He managed to capture and analyze the picture of postmodern society
and provides authen c informa on about the postmodern man.
Postmodernism came a er modernity. The rise of modernity was caused by the diminishing of the infl uence
of religion in the increasing complexity of life. The place of God had to be occupied by something else –
the man. The new morality was based on the nature of man. The downfall of modernism came as a result of the
inability to construct a ra onally organized society, in which the rule of mind is only reason. The new culture of
postmodernism is a culture of interpreta ve rather than legi mate reason; of consump on and instant enjoyment.
Postmodernism returns the dignity of emo ons, irra onal, inappropriate. Therefore, raising moral values
can be eff ec ve if it starts from feelings to reach reason and will. The postmodern man rejects edifi ca on, but
he needs communica on. The Church as a community was created to fully sa sfy this need. The diff eren a on
of postmodernism con nues, but it is in another form: instead of opposing the “elite” and the “masses,” it is
now between the “top” people and the “bo om-up” people. From the Chris an point of view, unity and equality
between men is possible through the realiza on of universal origin from God. In this and in many other areas,
Chris anity can be useful to the postmodern man.

Keywords: postmodernism, society, moral values, education, Christianity.
