Abstract: This ar cle considers the career development of pedagogical specialists in two direc ons: norma-
ve and scien fi c. The analysis of the legal acts, regula ng pre-school and school educa on in Bulgaria, summarizes
the current model of career development of pedagogical specialists (teachers in par cular) while the
review of scien fi c publica ons presents current trends in the defi ni ons and percep ons of the researchers
about career and career development; development and management of career. In the course of the research
it is ascertaining that at the macro level are established regula ons for the career development of pedagogical
specialists in pre-school and school educa on in Bulgaria. The commitment of educa onal ins tu ons (micro
level) is the strategic, tac cal and opera onal career management decisions of pedagogical specialists. At
the same me, career development, as a set of ac vi es related to planning and managing of professional development,
requires a combina on of eff orts and responsibili es of both the educa onal organiza on and individual
pedagogical specialists in it. New percep ons of career development consider career more as a func on
of the individual. Each pedagogical specialist should take responsibility of his/her own career by se ng up goals
and plans, searching for informa on and career resources, talking with the principal of the educa onal ins tu-
on for his/her career; takes advantage of the opportuni es for development and pursues realis c career plans.
